Battlefield Air Targeting Man-Aided Knowledge (BATMAN) is an Advanced Technology Demonstration and part of the Battlefield Air Operations Kit (ATD/BAO), outfitting future American soldiers with an enhanced tactical communications array and heightening battlefield awareness. Working with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force base and lead sub-contractors, Alphaport is providing countless benefits to American troops requiring air support during battle.
To improve the combat controller’s situational awareness, Alphaport designed a single, wrist-mounted, software control interface that integrates multiple BAO Toolkit devices. By consolidating multiple device interfaces, attention management problems are reduced and the controller can focus on combat and communication with air-support through an active noise reducing headset with enhanced speech recognition capabilities. The headset also features full circum-aural protection and enhanced localization.
In addition to the wrist-mounted interface, Alphaport is also optimizing the RAM, graphics processing capabilities, and connectivity of an on-board laptop computer, mounted to the chest plate of the combat controller.
As combat technology advances, so does the challenge of human systems integration. Alphaport is leading an Advanced Technology Demonstration to include Head Mounted Displays, a cable reducing Personal Wireless Networking System, and a wearable computer while improving performance and reducing weight.
Alphaport is fully committed to protecting deployed American troops by developing advanced and highly versatile battlefield knowledge management solutions.
